When wars come to an end, their consequences do not. While material and economic damage may be among the more visible and, in some cases, more manageable outcomes, the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual wounds caused by war often persist long after the fighting has stopped. These impacts affect both military and civilian populations and can manifest in overt as well as latent forms, frequently extending across generations. Such long-term consequences profoundly shape societies, political systems, health care structures, and social welfare systems, and they continue to challenge and undermine processes of peace and reconciliation—despite the widespread desire for new beginnings after conflict.

With the lecture series “War – Peace – Reconciliation,” we aim to give voice to scholars and practitioners who engage with post-war realities from different perspectives, whether through academic research or civil society initiatives.

Organised by Caritas Studies-Universität Freiburg, Rapred Girubuntu and other partners.
