Amid Libya’s draconian laws, the civil society organizations (CSOs) in the country face mounting challenges. Repressive measures imposed by the Libyan authorities have made it nearly impossible for CSOs and human rights activists to carry out their vital work, thereby systematically dismantling civic space across the country. As a result, many face persecution or are forced to close down their activities, as efforts to promote human rights are increasingly stifled and criminalized.

In a discussion with Yasar Alameen, a Libyan human rights activist, we will take a closer look at the situation in the country and hear about her experiences as an activist countering the ever-increasing shrinking space for civil society action.
